A more stable, more confident alternative to conventional dentures — secured by specialist-placed implants.

Syncone

If you currently wear a full denture, you will know the limitations it brings. Movement when eating, the need for adhesive, the anxiety of speaking or laughing in company, and the gradual change in your facial appearance as the jaw shrinks beneath it. These are not inevitable consequences of tooth loss. They are the consequences of an unsupported denture.

SynCone is a precision implant system that transforms the way a denture sits in your mouth. Using between four and six dental implants, it creates a firm, reliable foundation that your denture clicks securely onto. The result is a prosthesis that stays in place throughout the day — giving you the stability of implants while retaining the convenience of a removable appliance for cleaning.

At Conway House Dental Practice, SynCone treatment is planned and placed by our GDC-registered Specialist Dentists, who bring years of dedicated postgraduate training in Oral Surgery and Restorative Dentistry to every implant case. For patients in Marlow, Beaconsfield and High Wycombe, this level of expertise makes a real and lasting difference to outcomes.

How SynCone Works

SynCone uses a precision tapered attachment system. Between four implants in the lower jaw and up to six in the upper jaw are placed into the jawbone. Each implant has a tapered post fitted to it, and a matching coping — a small precision cap — is built into the base of the overdenture.

When the denture is inserted, the copings engage with the posts and lock firmly into position. There is no wobble, no slipping, and no need for adhesive. Removing the denture for cleaning at the end of the day is simple and takes seconds.

This connection does more than just hold the denture still. Because the implants are anchored in the jawbone, they stimulate the bone in the same way a natural tooth root does, slowing or preventing the bone loss that otherwise follows tooth loss. For many patients, this is one of the most significant long-term benefits — preserving the facial structure and avoiding the sunken appearance associated with prolonged denture wear.

SynCone is particularly well suited to patients who want the security of implants but prefer a solution they can remove for cleaning — or who are not yet ready for a fully fixed arch.

Who Is SynCone Suitable For?

SynCone is designed for patients who are missing all or most of their teeth in one or both arches and are looking for a significant improvement on a conventional denture. It is especially suited to patients who:

  • Find their current denture unstable, uncomfortable, or embarrassing — SynCone eliminates movement and gives you back the confidence to eat and speak freely.
  • Have been wearing a denture for some years and are experiencing increasing bone loss and a loosening fit.
  • Want a solution that combines implant-level stability with easy removal for cleaning — unlike a fixed bridge, the SynCone overdenture can be taken out at the end of the day.
  • Are concerned about the cost or complexity of a fully fixed arch — SynCone is often a more accessible entry point into implant-retained tooth replacement, starting from £3,500.
  • Have reduced bone volume but still have sufficient bone to support implants — our specialist assessment will confirm suitability.

Consultation and Fees

Every SynCone treatment begins with a dedicated consultation, priced at £150. At this appointment, our specialist will take 3D CBCT images of your jaw, assess your bone volume and gum health, review your medical history, and discuss your goals and expectations in full. You will leave with a clear, itemised treatment plan and realistic costings before any commitment is made.

Implant-supported dentures using the SynCone system start from £3,500. The final cost depends on the number of implants required and whether any preparatory treatment — such as gum therapy or bone grafting — is needed beforehand. We provide transparent pricing with no hidden charges, and flexible payment options including 0% finance are available subject to status.

Your SynCone Treatment Journey

Assessment and 3D Imaging

We begin with a thorough assessment, including 3D CBCT imaging of your jaw. This gives our Consultant Oral Surgeon a precise picture of bone volume, density, and the position of key anatomical structures — allowing each implant to be planned with accuracy before any treatment begins.

Preparatory Treatment

If any gum disease is present or residual teeth need to be removed, these are addressed first. Active gum disease significantly increases the risk of implant failure, and our Specialist in Periodontics, Dr Mital Patel, is closely involved wherever gum health requires attention before implant placement can proceed.

Implant Placement

The implant screws are placed under local anaesthetic by our Consultant Oral Surgeon, Mr Dipesh Patel. IV sedation is available for patients who prefer a more relaxed experience. In many cases, a temporary stabilised denture can be provided on the same day so you are never without teeth.

Healing and Osseointegration

Over the following three to five months, the implants fuse with the surrounding bone through osseointegration. You will attend review appointments during this period so we can monitor healing and ensure everything is progressing well.

SynCone Attachment and Final Denture

Once the implants are confirmed as fully integrated, the tapered posts are attached and the final SynCone overdenture is fitted and adjusted by our Consultant and Specialist in Restorative Dentistry, Mr Ashok Vijayakumar. The precision of this restoration stage is as important as the surgical placement — both specialists work in close coordination to deliver the final result.

Ongoing Maintenance

SynCone overdentures require regular professional maintenance. The attachments may need periodic adjustment over time, and the implants themselves must be monitored for signs of peri-implantitis — a form of infection around the implant that is the leading cause of long-term implant failure. Our hygiene team and specialist clinicians will guide you on how to keep your SynCone healthy for years to come.

Specialist Dentistry Supporting Your SynCone Outcome

SynCone sits within a broader framework of specialist care at Conway House. Because every relevant discipline is represented in-house, your entire treatment journey is coordinated by one team — with no need for referrals to external practices.

Oral Surgery — Specialist Implant Placement

Mr Dipesh Patel, our Consultant Oral Surgeon (BDS Lond, MFDS RCS Ed, MOral Surg), places every implant. His training goes well beyond what a general dentist completing a short course can offer. Where bone grafting or more complex surgical preparation is required before SynCone implants can be placed, Mr Patel performs this in-house using 3D imaging guidance — keeping your care in one trusted clinical environment.

Restorative Dentistry — Precision from Implant to Overdenture

Mr Ashok Vijayakumar, Consultant and Specialist in Restorative Dentistry (M.Pros RCS Eng, FDS RestDent RCS Eng), oversees the prosthetic element of your SynCone treatment — the design, fitting, and long-term management of the overdenture itself. The quality of the restoration determines how well the overdenture functions and how natural it looks. Specialist-level restorative expertise at this stage makes a meaningful difference to the final outcome.

Periodontics — Protecting the Foundation

Dr Mital Patel, Specialist in Periodontics (MClinDent Perio, MPerio RCS Ed), manages gum health before, during, and after SynCone treatment. Gum disease must be fully controlled before implants are placed, and any signs of peri-implantitis — inflammation around the implants — must be caught and managed early. Having a GDC-registered Specialist in Periodontics as part of your care team is one of the most important safeguards for the long-term health of your implants.

Endodontics — Where Existing Teeth Need to Be Saved or Managed

For patients who retain some natural teeth alongside their SynCone overdenture, the health of those remaining teeth is important. Dr Anand Mistry, whose practice is limited to Endodontics, is available in-house for root canal treatment where teeth need to be preserved. Keeping remaining teeth healthy protects the wider environment in which your implants sit.

Orthodontics — When Alignment Affects the Plan

In cases where patients retain teeth in one arch while having SynCone placed in the other, Dr Helen Veeroo, our Consultant Orthodontist, may be involved in assessing the alignment and occlusion — how the upper and lower teeth come together. Getting the bite right before and after implant treatment contributes to both comfort and longevity of the restoration.

Conscious Sedation — For Nervous Patients

We understand that implant treatment can feel daunting, particularly for patients who have avoided dentistry for many years. IV sedation is available at Conway House for patients who prefer to be in a deeply relaxed state throughout their procedure. Dr Mital Patel holds a particular interest in treating nervous patients with sedation and is a member of SAAD (the Society for the Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry).

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between SynCone and All-on-4? right washed out crimson circle arrow down washed out crimson circle arrow

Both treatments use implants to support a replacement arch of teeth, but they differ in how the prosthesis is attached. SynCone uses a precision click-in attachment system, meaning the overdenture can be removed for cleaning — much like a conventional denture, but with far greater stability during the day. All-on-4 provides a permanently fixed bridge that cannot be removed by the patient. Both are significantly superior to a conventional denture; the right choice depends on your preferences, clinical situation, and budget. We will discuss both options honestly at your consultation.

How secure is a SynCone overdenture during the day? right washed out crimson circle arrow down washed out crimson circle arrow

The SynCone attachment system provides a level of retention that is considerably greater than anything achievable with denture adhesive. The tapered posts and precision copings create a firm, stable connection throughout the day. Patients consistently describe the improvement in confidence — when eating, speaking, and smiling — as transformative compared to their previous conventional denture.

How long does SynCone treatment take from start to finish? right washed out crimson circle arrow down washed out crimson circle arrow

The overall timeline depends on whether any preparatory treatment is needed. Where no grafting is required and gum health is good, the process from implant placement to final denture fitting typically takes between four and six months, allowing sufficient time for osseointegration. Your specialist will give you a personalised timeline at your consultation.

How do I clean a SynCone overdenture? right washed out crimson circle arrow down washed out crimson circle arrow

The overdenture is removed each evening and cleaned in the same way as a conventional denture — using a soft brush and denture cleaner. The implants and attachments in the mouth are cleaned with a toothbrush and interdental aids. Our hygiene team will show you exactly how to maintain both the overdenture and the implants effectively at home.

Is the SynCone consultation fee refundable or applied to treatment? right washed out crimson circle arrow down washed out crimson circle arrow

The £150 consultation fee covers a full specialist assessment, 3D CBCT imaging, and a detailed treatment plan. Please speak to our reception team for the most current information on how this applies to your treatment costs, and to discuss our available payment options.
