You are welcome here — however you feel about the dentist.

A Practice That Cares for Every Patient

At Conway House Dental Practice, we pride ourselves on caring for all our patients. We make sure that every person receives the best possible care and attention. Our dentists and dental team provide a very relaxed and calming environment. We always spend time explaining all treatment options and procedures, and our patients are always invited to ask as many questions as they need, to make sure they feel completely clear about their dental treatment and choices. At the end of every dental assessment, all patients are provided with a written treatment plan and an estimate of the costs involved.

If you feel nervous, please do not let that stop you from getting in touch. We understand that dental anxiety is real, it is common, and it can vary enormously from person to person. Some patients feel mild unease about specific procedures; others have avoided the dentist for years because the anxiety has felt overwhelming. Wherever you fall on that spectrum, we have the experience and the patience to work with you at whatever pace feels right.

Why Dental Anxiety Is So Common

Dental anxiety affects a significant number of adults in the UK. It often begins with a difficult experience in childhood or adolescence — a procedure that felt painful or rushed, a clinician who did not take the time to explain what was happening, or simply the accumulated dread of waiting rooms and unfamiliar sounds. Over time, that anxiety can harden into avoidance, and avoidance leads to dental problems that feel even more daunting to address.

We see this pattern regularly — and we never judge it. What we do is work gently and honestly to break the cycle. Most patients who have not been to a dentist for several years tell us afterwards that the appointment was far easier than they had anticipated.

Taking the First Step

We know that for some patients, even making a phone call to a dental practice feels difficult. You do not have to commit to an appointment immediately — a conversation is enough to start. Our team is experienced in supporting nervous patients from that very first contact, and we will never push you further than you are ready to go.

Call us, send a message, or book online. We are here for you — at Conway House Dental Practice in High Wycombe, serving patients from Marlow, Beaconsfield and the surrounding area.

How We Help You Feel at Ease

From the moment you contact us, our approach is built around your comfort. There is no pressure, no rushing, and no assumption about what you are ready for.

  • We encourage you to talk to us about your concerns before your appointment — by phone, by email, or in person. Knowing what to expect, and feeling heard, makes a real difference.
  • Every treatment option is explained clearly in plain language, with time for questions at every stage.
  • You are always in control. Nothing proceeds without your understanding and agreement.
  • If you need a break during treatment, you only need to raise your hand. We stop.
  • Written treatment plans and cost estimates are provided after every assessment, so there are no surprises.
  • Our 24-hour contact line means you can always reach a member of the team if you have concerns before or after an appointment.

When You Need a Little More Help: Sedation

For patients whose anxiety is more significant, we offer dental sedation — and it genuinely changes the experience for many people who had previously felt that certain treatments were simply not possible for them.

  • IV (intravenous) sedation — a sedative drug administered into a vein that creates a deeply relaxed, calm state. You remain conscious and responsive throughout, but anxiety is greatly reduced and most patients have little or no memory of the treatment afterwards. This is available alongside the majority of dental procedures at Conway House.
  • Oral sedation — a sedative tablet taken before the appointment, suitable for patients with moderate anxiety who prefer a gentler approach without the need for a cannula.

Sedation does not replace local anaesthetic — the treatment area is still numbed fully. What sedation does is remove the emotional experience of anxiety, making it possible to receive care that might otherwise feel impossible.

Specialist Treatments Are Available Too

Dental anxiety should not limit what dental care you are able to access. At Conway House, sedation is available not just for routine treatment but alongside more involved procedures when needed.

Patients who need oral surgery — such as the removal of impacted wisdom teeth by Mr Dipesh Patel, our Consultant Oral Surgeon — can have this carried out under IV sedation at the practice, avoiding a hospital referral and the additional anxiety that can bring. Similarly, patients requiring surgical periodontal treatment with Dr Mital Patel, our Specialist in Periodontics, can discuss sedation as an option to make that care manageable.

If there is a treatment you have been putting off because of anxiety, please tell us. There is almost always a way to make it work.
