Gum disease is the leading reason for premature tooth loss in adults around the world and can cause various health problems when it reaches an advanced stage.
Our Hygienists and Periodontists can help manage and treat signs of gum disease to ensure you avoid debilitating symptoms and tooth loss.
Gum disease treatment varies depending on the symptoms you show and how far the condition has developed.
In cases where gum disease is in its early stages (gingivitis), professional cleaning of your teeth using our Airflow® system may be sufficient to halt its evolution. Lifestyle changes such as amendments to your diet and brushing and flossing technique may also need to be considered.
With more severe cases, procedures such as the following may need to be carried out:
Root planing
Special instruments are used to remove plaque and tartar that have settled under the gum line.
Oral surgery
Treatments such as gum grafts to address gum recession can be performed to protect your tooth dentine & enamel.
On-going cleaning
We may require you to visit the clinic for multiple scale and polish sessions after non-surgical or surgical gum disease treatment to ensure symptoms subside.
Several symptoms indicate you may need a Hygienist or Periodontist to intervene for the sake of your oral health, such as:
We can help you prevent the need for gum disease treatment at your routine hygienist visits. During your check-up with the hygienist (every six months), the biofilm that builds up on your teeth when you eat each day (plaque and tartar) is removed.
The regular removal of biofilm will significantly help to ensure you don’t suffer from the onset, or indeed the latter stages of gum disease.
Every gum disease case is different. All the treatment we deliver for our valued patients is fully tailored and methodically planned out.
Diagnosis
An examination of your gum tissues and tongue is carried out. The way your teeth sit within your sockets is also assessed.
We may also measure your periodontal pockets to see if plaque and tartar have stuck under your gum line.
Treatment
Your treatment will be discussed with you based on you condition. If oral surgery is needed, it will be booked on a later date.
Maintenance
We will advise you on how often to see us for further treatment and routine appointments to have plaque and tartar regularly removed from your gum line.
